"God grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference." ~ Reinhold Niebuhr

Alter ego:   SOCRATES

We have a great philosopher among us. Within our mix of gods, goddesses and warriors, we absolutely needed a thinker! Socrates was an actual philosopher in ancient Greek history and an enigmatic figure. The influence of his ideas, and his logical approach, credit Socrates as one of the founders of Western philosophy. We know of him mostly through the writings of his students Plato and Xenophon and the plays of Aristophanes.

Plato referred to Socrates’ military service. A thinker and a warrior! He served in the Athenian army during three campaigns: at Potidaea, Amphipolis and Delium. The prominent Athenian statesman and general, Alcibiades, described Socrates’ valour in the battles of Potidaea and Delium, recounting how Socrates saved his life in Potidaea. Socrates compares his military service to his courtroom troubles when his philosophy was in question. He says anyone on the jury who thinks he ought to retreat from philosophy must also think soldiers should retreat when it seems likely that they will be killed in battle.

We are proud that our own Socrates chooses to move forward logically and battle with us in our continuing Ride adventure.

The ID300 warrior:

Costa has been on a quest to find a Foundation and a project that would get him actively involved in playing a part to conquer cancer. For his fifth golden helmet event, he rededicates his Ride to the memory of his mother and father. The team is fortunate to have his confident presence to spearhead successful fundraising efforts like our 2014, 2015 & 2016 Disco Party, and to ride with in our big and meaningful adventure.

Please visit Costa’s Ride to Conquer Cancer personal page and make a generous donation to encourage him. The funds are immediately put to work at the Segal Cancer Centre of the Jewish General Hospital.
