Alter ego:    Bellerophon

Bellerophon was one of the greatest heroes of Greek mythology. He fought alongside his hero buddies, Cadmus and Perseus, and took on some of those fiercest and most frightening of monsters we have read about, even before the days of the mighty Hercules.

It was foretold that he would one day soon have need of Pegasus, the untamed winged horse. Several stories were told as to how Bellerophon was able to obtain the services of the free-spirited Pegasus. Each story shows that he had the help of an Olympian deity. There are stories that say Athena helped him by bringing him a golden bridle while he slept and he was then able to approach and tame the winged horse. Then there are other stories that say Poseidon, the god of the sea and horse-tamer, secretly the father of Bellerophon, brought Pegasus to him. With either story, Bellerophon had the trusted steed as his ally and they flew off to undertake his ultimate feat – the slaying of Chimera, a monstrous fire-breathing creature composed of three animals – a lion, a goat and a serpent. It was as frightening to look at as you can imagine and you know it had to be ill-tempered and full of unpleasantness. Many tried to take on the Chimera and it never ended well for them. It was Bellerophon who finally defeated it with the help of the winged horse, Pegasus. Since Pegasus could fly, Bellerophon threw his spear from the air, maneuvering safely from the fiery breath. He had equipped his spear with a lump of lead that melted when exposed to the Chimera’s blast of flame and ended it once and for all.

The ID300 warrior:

Peter fearlessly joined our team in 2014 maneuvering his speedy bike in this adventure. After training with us the year before, we are happy he made the decision to join our team and add to our strength. His Ride is now also dedicated to the memory of his mother. Like Bellerophon, he too has been inspired to take on the big battle to conquer another insidious beast.  We are proud to ride with him in this challenge. Peter has set a great example of genuinely enjoying endurance rides to inspire the rest of his teammates. He rides rain or shine and has logged in thousands…yes, thousands of riding kilometers each year.

Please encourage Peter with your donation to help him reach his fundraising goal.
